2020 Private Commission Prices and Policies
Since I paint model horses for my own personal enjoyment, I make absolutely NO claim or guarantee that my work is “live show quality” as everyone’s definition what LSQ can differ greatly.
Please note: Even though I have been labelled as such (and my hobby identity is Red Horse ARTworks), I am NOT an artist. I never have been, am not one now, and I never will be an "artist". I am a model horse hobby painter. That is what I have been since I started painting model horses in the late 1970's and that is what I will always be. So, if you are looking to have your model painted by an "artist", then you will have to look elsewhere. I have no formal training in painting or airbrushing or art in general. I am simply a model horse enthusiast who ended up painting her own models because she couldn't afford to buy the models done by true hobby artists.
My work is far from perfect - there will most likely be some rough areas, some bits of this or that (probably cat hair, since I have 4 of the little buggers), and areas that missed my eye when prepping or painting. If you want perfection, you won't find it here.
I PAINT MODEL HORSES BECAUSE I ENJOY IT - NOT TO WIN RIBBONS OR PAY THE BILLS.

CLASSIC/TRADITIONAL SCALE |
PRICE |

Dappled Gray |
$300 and up |
Appaloosa/Paint/Pinto – Simple/Minimal Pattern |
Price depends on complexity of color/pattern |
RESINS MUST BE HOLLOW-CAST.
Traditional and Classic sized models must come to me WELL-PREPPED and in WHITE primer. What is well-prepped? Smoothly sanded seams, air-hole in both plastic and hollow-cast resin models, preferably between the hind legs, divots/deep seams/etc. filled with putty and/or epoxy and sanded smooth. The finish of the primer must be smooth, not pebbly or like sandpaper. If I have to do minor touch-ups, that's fine, but if I have to spend time sanding missed seams, filling gaps, repriming, etc., I will need to charge a prep fee or return your model at your expense. I reserve the right to refuse to paint any models that are not prepped to my standards. Side note: The reason I cannot offer prepping is because my hands cannot handle much prepping these days. I have arthritis in both of my hands and prepping is very hard on them and I'd rather spare my hands that abuse and be able to paint more and longer.
Yes, I know there aren’t many preppers around taking orders (or many preppers in general), so I will gladly advise you on how YOU can prep your own models.

REGARDING REFERENCES
While I understand that people want their model to look "just like the picture", I'm not that kind of painter. Yes, you may submit photos of what you'd like your model to look like, but I will use those photos as inspiration rather than literal references. I will certainly try to get your model to look as close as possible to your reference photos, but I admit to needing a certain amount of artistic freedom to do my best work. If this doesn't work for you, then I'm not the painter for you.
VERY IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ
Folks, I am a slow painter at best. In addition to arthritis in my hands, I suffer from severe dry eyes. That condition very often limits the amount of time I can devote to painting. I cannot say how long it will take to finish your model. It could be a month, it could be a year or more. If you don’t hear from me for awhile and want to know what is happening with your model, feel free to contact me at red.horse.artworks@gmail.com.
PAYMENT and SHIPPING
I do not require payment up front or a deposit. Payment in full must be received within 5 mailing days upon notification that your finished model is ready to ship. I usually give you a heads up that your model is nearly finished so you can make sure to have the funds available when the model is done. Customer also pays return shipping and their chosen amount of insurance. Absolutely NO time payments. If you need more than 5 business days to get payment to me, let me know and we can work something out.
I do take PayPal, but I prefer a money order (or a personal check, if you have done business with me before) to save me the PayPal fees. If paying by PayPal, you will need to send two payments - one for the finishwork (Goods/Services) and one for the shipping and insurance (Friends/Family).
PLEASE NOTE: I will return your completed model in the same box and packing material as it was sent in, so be sure to send it in an appropriate box with plenty of packing materials! I do NOT have extra boxes and packing materials to return your model in so you must be sure that the piece is packed well in a sturdy and generously sized box because it will be making its return trip in the same box.
